Our Amazing Weekend at 2014 Summer NAMM

The Electric Loog Guitar at Summer NAMM

We just had the most amazing three days at Summer NAMM in Nashville this weekend, showcasing the final Electric Loog Guitar and getting increasingly giddy about them finally shipping out next Monday. (Yes! That’s ONE WEEK from today!) But among the many friends we met, old and new, something was quite awesome: lots of people had a chance to try out the Electric Loog Guitar and the feedback we got was GREAT!

The Electric Loog Guitar Color Guide

Last week we opened a survey on Kickstarter so that Electric Loog Guitar backers could choose the guitar color they wanted and give us their address. We got a lot of comments asking for Pantone numbers and real-life pictures and, even though some helpful folks dug up some pictures from our instagram account, we thought it would be helpful to have everything in one place. That place is here 🙂

So just scroll down to the color you want and find a real-life picture, Pantone number and color code to make an informed decision. We’re working on a pro photo shoot to have even more pics to share soon, but these pics from NAMM 2014 and Toy Fair NY should work for now!

Loog Guitar Store News: Complementary Pickguard Sets and New Tuner!

Loog Guitar Pickguard SetHey guys! As the most observant of you have already noticed, we’ve done some moving around in the Loog Store lately.

First off, now all Loog Guitars come with a pickguard set, which means you get 5 different pickguards with every purchase of a new Loog. These pickguards can be easily swapped to keep the guitars fresh and new – there’s green, red, blue, yellow and off-white to choose from! The pickguard set was originally a sold-separately $19 accessory, so this is quite cool.

On the OTHER hand, we also have a new tuner available! You can get it as a stand-alone $19 item or as part of our $199 value pack, which includes a Loog Guitar, a pickguard set, a guitar stand, a Loog strap and -now- a tuner.

So take your pick! We’ve constantly trying to improve our store and think this is quite a switch – for the better. Let us know what you think 🙂

Electric Loog Guitar Update!

[This was originally posted in the Electric Loog Guitar’s Kickstarter page but I wanted to put it here as well, in case any of you aren’t really following our updates there. The TL;DR is: we have pre-production samples, we’re tweaking some minor things and we’re right on schedule. Plus: awesome pics from NAMM 2014!]

Hello! I hope you all had a great new year start. We had a busy holiday season and last week we came back from the NAMM Show (a huge musical instruments trade show in the U.S.) where we showed some early samples of the Electric Loog and even met a few of you there!

Here are a few pictures; as you can see, we now have samples in new colors apart from the blue one we showed in Kickstarter:ç

So, this is what’s new: we purchased the pickups and we placed the order for the strings (to D’Addario, the world’s largest string manufacturer and our current string provider for our acoustic models too). We also received a new set of samples from our manufacturing partners in China and things are definitely headed in the right direction, but there are still a few corrections to be made. Not to bore you with the details, but as an example of the back-and-forth we have with them, here are a few lines of what was a very long email (followed by a Skype call):

  • the cavities for the volume knob and output jack should be 30mm deep resulting in a 5mm wall to place those parts (knob and jack). Since that wall is 7mm in the sample, those parts don’t fit.
  • the screws for the pickup, in the back of the guitar, should fit flush to the surface of the back of the guitar.
  • the radius in the outline of the body is almost imperceptible. In the technical drawings is specified that it should be 1.5mm.

There were some other minor issues of this sort, but all in all things are looking good both time-wise and quality-wise. Now we’ll have a couple of slow weeks because of the Chinese New Year holiday, but we expect to have a new production update before the end of February when we expect to enter in full production-mode and make the first batch of Electric Loog Guitars!

Let me know if you have any questions, please.

And The Loog Winner Is…

The moment you’ve already been waiting for has finally arrived! After clear, thorough inspection and playlist-making of your favorite songs of 2013, we’re ready to say that you’ve all got incredible taste in music. Oh, and we have a winner for our Third Annual Loog Guitar Giveaway.

Before we have the honor of announcing him (or her! Or him!) this is what their favorite song of 2013 was. Actually, it’s two songs:

Loog Giveaway Results 2014

Other amazing (?) stats:

– The most voted-for song was Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”. Unfortunately, no one got lucky with that one (pun intended).
“Royals” by Lorde was the second most voted-for song. Did you guys know she’s only 17 years old? We LOVE her.
– The most adorable favorite song was posted by Estelle Posner who said: “”Upside Down” sung by ROLIE POLIE GUACAMOLE and played over and over and over by my grandkids on their out of tune non-Loog, so sad, guitars”. Awww!
– Edgar Rowden said Sail by AWOLNATION, which was our vote as well. Except we learned it came out in 2011. Whaaaaat?

Thanks to all of you for taking part in what has now become a fun little tradition for us – and hey, don’t be sad if you didn’t win! You can take the plunge and get one of your own or… well, there’s always next year 😉

Happy Loog Year :-)

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy – where do I even start? This year was huge for Loog Guitars, from start to end. Let’s start with the facts.

SHOWS AND AWARDS: This year, we attended our first NAMM Show ever and were selected for the NAMM Media Preview Day over thousands of exhibitors. And before we could even recover from the musical high, School Band & Orchesta Magazine named us one of the Best Tools for School, letting us share the podium with names like Yamaha and Alfred Publishing. February was Toy Fair NY month, where we caught up with old friends and… came out Best in Play according to Parenting Magazine (that’s one of the 26 best playthings in over 150,000 toys!).

RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME THINGS: Still all giddy about the awards -and while secretly working on a very secret project ;-)- we got to meet Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand in April, who turned out to be a Loog fan and adopted his own little 3-string after an awesome concert. We started getting feedback from world-class guitarists this year: Tom Dumont from No Doubt paid us a visit during NAMM and Wes Borland recently just casually mentioned Loog Guitars during an interview. Which was AMAZINGLY unexpected. We’re still jumping up and down!

Pip Blom - Short StoriesLOOG ARTISTS: And that’s not even mentioning Pip Blom, our favorite Loog artist, launched her first album ever in June this year. She plays all 14 songs from the album with a Loog Guitar, and the album even got featured on Techcrunch! You really should go listen to the album as soon as this post is over 😉

UPDATES: Lots of changes for the original, acoustic Loog this year: we launched an updated design early on, and later introduced the Loog strap. Our new site AND logo also came around in October, just in time for…

THE ELECTRIC LOOG GUITAR, BABY! The Electric Loog Guitar! Definitely this year’s highlight 🙂 The Electric Loog Guitar Kickstarter campaign managed to bring 469 people from all over the world together, to raise $70,007 in funding. Not only did it break the original Loog’s Kickstarter record, today the Electric Loog Guitar is well in its way to becoming a reality – and all thanks to you.

The Electric Loog Guitar

All of this happened amidst videos, pictures and recordings sent our way, by people who fell in love with the Loog as hard as we did when it was just an idea for a Master’s thesis.

THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! We feel so grateful and humbled by everything each one of you has done to get us to where we are today. 2013 helped us feel less alone in the world and it’s amazing to find so many like-minded people who share our views, philosophies and love of music. I know I’ve said this before, but you all seriously rock. I hope your 2014 is filled with joy, laughter and exciting riffs sprinkled with the odd folk song. You deserve it 🙂

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

Happy New Year!

PS: The Loog Guitar Annual Giveaway is still underway! Comment on this post with your favorite song of 2013 to get a chance to win a brand new Loog, delivered straight to your door! The winner will be announced on Monday, January 6.
