7 Best Gifts for Kid Guitar Players

Dressed up as Bowie for Halloween, watched SpongeBob jamming out with Patrick, wants to be just like rocker Mommy or can’t get enough of Daddy’s tunes – whatever the reason, you now have a little kid guitar player in your hands. And even rockstars write Santa letters from time to time. So what should you get a little kid guitar player?

We’ve got your back. Below are what we consider the 7 best gifts for kid guitar players. Better start ‘em young!

1. Loog Guitar

Let’s just get this one out of the way – of course we think the Loog Guitar is THE best gift for kid guitar players, especially if they’re still brimming with potential. Call us biased, but its narrow neck and three strings makes learning to play guitar easy peasy. Plus, continuing to learn is a breeze when you’re already playing ENTIRE songs on day one thanks to its Chord Flashcards and awesome iOS and Android App.

So go ahead and start a rock band with your little future lead guitarist. Just think of the places you’ll tour, the songs you’ll perform and the fun you’ll have – right there in your living room!

6 Best Musical Instruments for Toddlers

We’ve established that learning to play an instrument makes kids smarter, but now what? Do we get an oboe? An accordion? Guitar Hero? Fill up a jar with rice and call it a day? Not a chance. To help you decide, here are the 6 best musical instruments for kids to learn to play, ideal for their small hands!

1. Drums (1-3 years old)

Real drums should best be left alone until kids are at least 12 years old. Meanwhile, there are some amazing toy drums out there that could really help kids start grasping the fundamentals of rhythm. This one by Plan Toys is one of our favorites and seems to be ideal for younger kids and toddlers.

Looking for something for even younger kids? Then shakers or percussion set toys could be your best bet – just keep in mind that these toys are noisy and are best suited for very chill, patient families 😉

Introducing the New Loog Guitar Events

We’ve been keeping busy this year in our own hometown with a crazy idea we had: Loog Guitar events. Or, in other words, why not offer concerts for kids and then show them how to rock out once the gig is over? Luckily, we found many similar-minded people who thought our idea wasn’t that crazy and let us test it out.

And boy was it fun! Kids were not only enjoying rock shows made for them, but also sticking around to learn to build and play the Loog Guitar. The more extroverted bunch even dared to hop on stage and try the Loog out! Others prefered one-on-one sessions at the end of the show, helped by band members and music teachers. Read more

Want a Smart Kid? Give Them a Guitar

The following is a translated excerpt of a piece we found in El País, Spain’s #1 newspaper. You can find the entire piece in its original language right over here. It’s nothing exceptionally new and it reinforces much of what we already say in our Your Kids’ Brain on Music infographic – but it does throw new light on how powerful learning to play music can be, especially at a younger age than we assumed.

The Third Annual (!) Loog Guitar Giveaway

**UPDATE: Entries for the Loog Guitar Giveaway have already been closed, but feel free to continue sharing your favorite songs of 2013!**

Loog Guitar

This was a super special year for us – we know we say that every year, but you guys are making every single year even better than the last! We’ll be recapping the awesomeness that was 2013 later, but first things first.

We’ve been receiving a ton of pics of kids playing their Loog after finding it under their tree. We can’t even begin to describe how awesome this is and how stoked we are that you’re all sharing those moments with us. According to our numbers, 2014 will probably see a rise in kid rockers sporting three-strings and learning about music – we’re honored that the Loog will be such a huge part of that.

(Huge thanks to @patrickisrad, @chicagofretworks, @agentmule and Paul Conte for letting us re-share all of these pics with you guys!)

And now, let’s jump right into what you’re waiting for. Three years ago we decided to throw a Loog Guitar Giveaway so that everyone who hadn’t gotten one under the tree would have a last chance to do so. We repeated the experience last year and, lo and behold, this year marks our THIRD giveaway. We’re creating traditions, baby!

The rules are simple: just comment on this post telling us what the best song of 2013 was – any song, by any artist and we promise no public shaming (so guilty pleasures are allowed!). Then we’ll run the results through a random picker app-thingy and the winner gets a brand new Loog Guitar delivered to their door.

We’ll keep this going until Sunday, January 5th 2014, 23:59 EST. The winner will be announced on this blog on Monday, January 6th so keep your eyes open! We’ll need to contact you to get your address to know where your brand new Loog is going 😉

Good luck and let the songs begin!

The Loog Is One of 1001 Guitars to Play Before You Die

We bet you’re familiar with those 1001 picture books that are around, with 1001 of something you need to do, listen, read, love or play before you die. Well, a guitar edition is now out and about and guess what – the Loog is included in it!

As you can see, the Loog II stands proudly on page 943, right beside the Kramer B3 Baretta. Here’s a couple of pictures of what the book says about it:

Isn’t this awesome? While we would have felt a little left out if a 1001-guitar book did not include us, truth is we are thrilled to be there along the Gibsons, the Fenders and so many other iconic guitars. Too bad the book came out before the Electric Loog Guitar – we suspect there might have been another addition there 😉

Speaking of the Electric Loog, we’re now 109% funded (!!). Yes, we reached our funding goal and this is the final week for you to get your hands on an Electric Loog before anyone else and at a very special price. Keep pledging – the Electric Loog IS happening!
